On Sunday 29th July 2018 I ventured a couple of hours south of the border to the town of Lismore in New South Wales, Australia to attend the Lismore Aviation Expo 2018 public airshow. On arrival the airport was blanketed in a thick layer of fog, with very low visibility when the gates opened. The fog burned off reasonably quickly, resulting in only a 30 minute delay in the start of the day's flying. Several interesting aircraft attended the airshow, with a General Motors (Grumman) TBM-3E Avenger, Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk, North American T-28D Trojan, CAC CA-16 Wirraway, CAC CA-25 Winjeel, Yakovlev Yak-52 flying during the day and a Cessna O-2A Skymaster on static display (not sure why it wasn't flying). Paul Bennet Airshows also performed aerobatic displays with their WolfPitts Pro and Rebel 300 display team. The highlight of the show was a display by an RAAF BAE Systems Hawk 127 advanced jet trainer flying up and back from the Williamtown RAAF base to close the show. Some very interesting warbirds, good weather and some good flying displays made for an excellent day out.
