On Thursday 26th September I took a late lunch break down at Eagle Street Pier (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) to watch a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft perform its practice runs for the upcoming Riverfire celebration. Operated by RAAF No 36 Squadron out of nearby RAAF Base Amberley, she made the short trip and maintained a racetrack holding pattern to the west of the CBD until scheduled time of 1pm. The aircraft came up the river from the west, passing Southbank, heading out and making a 180 degree turn over Woolloongabba before coming along the river past the Botanic Gardens and Eagle Pier precinct before the powering up and over the iconic Story Bridge. She made two passes, the first a lot higher and more cautious than the second, all of these shots are from the second run. It is awesome to see such a big aircraft floating a few hundred feet overhead, then being thrown around in mavouvres that seem unlikely for a 200-ton cargo plane. A amazing aircraft, an excellent choice for the RAAF's largest transporter and sure to be a hit on Riverfire this weekend.
