20200208-MMPI0063 - Gold Coast Airport
On Saturday 8th February I ventured to Gold Coast (Coolangatta) Airport with an aviation buddy to capture some images to enter in a competition the airport was running to get the chance to shoot from airside in late March. The weather on the day wasn't that great, low cloud and on intermittent drizzle made for difficult lighting and shooting conditions, but at least it was nice and warm. The AirAsia X Airbus A330 9M-XXT in magnificent Xcintillating PhoeniX livery came in on an ILS approach in low cloud which made for some interesting condensation sheets breaking quickly from the wings but due to the mist and low light capturing it was not possible. I did manage to get a nice condensation trail from the wingtips as it touched down in light rain. I also got a Cessna Grand Caravan making some excelent propellor condensation vortices on takeoff. I got to see my first Scoot Airlines aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner arriving from Singapore, also a Jetstar Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner arriving from Tokyo. The rain did make for some good opportunities for jetspray from aircraft taking off and rotating. All in all a successful morning despite the overcast and drizzly conditionsm, with one spectacular livery and some good company. Now to see if I am successful with my entry to the competition, I may have the chance to return next week for one more outing before the competition closes - wish me luck!
