On Wednesday 25th November 2020 I went to Brisbane Airport (YBBN) before starting work to get my first look at an Antonov An-124 aircraft. This day the Antonov Design Bureau Antonov An-124-100M "Ruslan" UR-82008 arrived from Honolulu (PNHL) as a layover before proceeding the next morning to RAAF Williamtown (YWLM) to pick up two more ex-RAAF F/A-18A Hornets that are being sold to the Royal Canadian Air Force. I just made it, arriving less than five minutes before the big girl hove into view from the North. I chose the Fire Station as my vantage point to get best light for a morning approach on RWY19L, unfortunately this blocks the view until mid-runway so by the time she was visible she had finished reverse thrust and was just coasting to the next taxiway entry. I managed to get one shot of her with the ATC tower in the background, then sat back and marvelled at how big this machine is as she taxiied to the International terminal tarmac and laid up for the day. I plan to go back again next morning to catch her departing for Williamtown. After her arrival I popped in at the Logistics tarmac to get shots of Air Kiribati Embraer E190-E2 VH-IKJ and Virgin Australia Boeing 777-3ZG(ER) VH-VPF which are there for short-term storage.
