On Sunday 4th July 2021 I ventured to Archerfield Airport (YBAF) in an attempt to see a couple of warbirds that may have been flying home to New South Wales. A Curtis P-40 Kittyhawk and a Grumman TBF Avenger had staged to Archerfield for the planned Brisbane Airshow that was to be held at Watts bridge Memorial Airfield that weekend. Unfortunately a COVID outbreak a few days earlier caused the airshow to be postponed until October. The lockdown ended on Saturday 3rd so I presumed the warbird pilots would have been in lockdown and keen to return home on Sunday morning. I saw no sign of either of my target aircraft, but found a few other interesting aircraft while I looked around the airport. First up was a Pilatus PC-12/47 (VH-DNG) that landed just after I arrived, and later I caught it taxiing for takeoff. The Saario brother's bright yellow Antonov An-2TP was parked over on the Eastern side of the airfield, I got lots of photos of it back at the Mother's DFay event at Gatton Airpark in May. The other interesting aircraft was an Aero Commander 690B which has registration 5Y-FWI (ex-Kenya) under the wing and YJ-OO1 (ex-Vanuatu) on the fuselage. It currently has no Australian registration markings so I'm unsure of its current ownership, but I did find someone else photographed it at the airfield about 9 months earlier so it has been there for a while. A shame I didn't see my target aircraft but it was a good morning out, and after another COVID lockdown a welcome couple of hours outside the house.
