On Monday 7th May 2018 I ventured to the lakes at University of Queensland, St Lucia, Queensland, Australia. It had been around a year since I'd visited this location which is close to my home. While the range of species isn't what most local birders would consider very exciting, this spot gives me a good chance to get down on the ground and shoot pretty much along the waterline, which is not possible at most birding locations I frequent. This morning was light overcast, the sun didn't peek out at any point which makes for nice soft lighting of the birds, although with lower shutter speeds. I managed to get some nice shots of Pacific Black Duck and Hardhead (duck) showing a bit of emotion and in their environment, something I really enjoy in my images. Also present (and photographed) were Eurasian Coot, Australasian Swamphen and an Australian Darter who are always amusing. A Masked Lapwing provided me with some interesting shots, going in and out of its normal mode of alarm calls for no apparent reason, I love getting down to ground level with these interesting birds. Following UQ Lakes, I made a short trip to check out a nearby spot along the Brisbane River. Snapped a female Australian King Parrot feeding on a leaf from a Mistletoe plant, and a resplendant-looking Australian Magpie.
