On Saturday 19th May 2018 I paid a visit to two locations while staying on Queensland's Gold Coast. These were The Spit at Main Beach after sunrise, and the rainforest at Binna Burra mountain lodge in the Lamington National Park. Lovely golden hour light at the beach, managed to finally get a colurful Rainbow Bee-Eater in the golden light and as you can see they just glow! Caught a Willie Wagtail (my favourite angry bird) on a sand dune, this one wearing a leg band. Got shots of Pied Currawong and Black-faced Cuckooshrikes up close, while quite common local birds I have found them both wary and have few good close photos. Got some nice shots of Silver Gulls, they are much-maligned chip thieves but quite beautiful when you see them in nice light. My lifer for the day was the Tree Martin, a small Sparrow that I hadn't seen perched before (I may have seen them in flight with other Sparrows, but hard to ID them while they are zooming about in the sky). Later that day at Binna Burra I saw very few birds in the rainforest during several hours of searching. Managed a shot of a White-Browed Scrubwren, and some close-up portraits of the very prehistoric-looking Australian Brushturkey.
