20190119-MMPI0053 - Toowong Cemetery and Brisbane Botanic Gardens
On Saturday 19th January 2019 I met up with members of the Nature of Australia and Friends Abroad Facebook group at Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-Tha, Queensland, Australia. I walked through Toowong Cemetery from my home to get to the gardens, it was unusally quiet that morning. At the gardens, it was also quieter than I am used to (even through sunmer). The highlight of the morning was a Royal Spoonbill perching atop a tree beside one of the ponds, preening itself and on several occasions its beautiful head breeding plumage was blown up by the breeze. A White-faced Heron was hunting in another pond, the first time I've seen one at the gardens. A pair of Australasian Grebe were building a new nest right in front of us, which is unusual as they are normally quite shy of human contact despite living in a busy traffic area. Other birds include Hardhead, Pacific Black Duck, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, and Laughing Kookaburra. Nice to catch up with members of this friendly nature group.
