20190331-MMPI0053 - Tinchi Tamba Wetlands
On Sunday 31st March 2019 I visited Tinchi Tamba Wetlands in the Northern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. This is a 380 hectare wetland reserve between the Pine River and Bald Hills Creek. Much of the site is mangrove around the watercourses, with large open grasslands with some Eucalypt and Casuarina forest sections. Birding this morning was a bit sporadic, not many waders as I was not there at low tide. Good numbers (100+) of Eastern Grey Kangaroos, some carrying joeys at several locations around the reserve. I spent some time following a pair of Fan-tailed Cuckoos, then a group of Welcome Swallows on a shrub allowed me to get very close. The Mosquitos were large and numerous, the worst I've experienced in all my bird outings thus far.
