20190406-MMPI0053 - Springfield Lakes
On Saturday 6th April 2019 I ventured to nearby SPringfield Lakes, Springfield, Queensland, Australia. I was in search of the Cotton Pygmy Geese that were once again there at the southern limit of their range as they were two years back. This time there were five Geese, when I arrived a group of three were chasing the other two incessantly. I thought I was never going to get a photo of them on the water if this kept up, but they eventually settled back to feeding on the lake and I got some good water-level shots of these very pretty birds. I also got close to an immature Comb-crested Jacana and later an adult bird, the closest I have been to these lilypad walkers so far. A Great Egret was standing on a pontoon with a bunch of Little Black Cormorants, later it flew towards an Intermediate Egret at the shoreline, that resulted in some honking and a bit of posturing and chasing but they settled down to some hunting which gave me a great close-up opportunity with these impressive white birds. A wonderful morning with some beautiful birds, always better than sleeping in on the weekend.
