20200402-MMPI0064 - Toowong Cemetery
Thursday 2nd April 2020 - my first bird outing since the outbreak of the COVID19 (Coronavirus) and subsequent instruction from government to stay in our suburb. While the lockdown is in place, I will only be visiting Toowong Cemetery which is at the end of my street. I will aim to get good photos of the common species that I find there, and see if I can unearth some more unique visitors with regular visits. On this morning prior to starting work, I only managed to get close two species that I spent some time with, the Australasian Figbird (Sphecotheres vieilloti) and Scaly-breasted Lorikeet (Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus). I found the Figbirds feasting on fruits of an Umbrella tree, and the cheeky Lorikeets feeding on fruits of a Camphor Laurel tree. In nice morning sunlight I managed some good feather details, getting quite close to the Lorikeets with my 500mm lens. In these uncertain times, the hour I spent birding that morning before work really lifted my spirits, the birds unaffected by the crisis just going about their lives. I hope to continue birding at the cemetery several mornings per week, hoping to improve my images and create a catalog of species of species I find there.
