Wednesday 5th August 2020 saw me make a quick pre-work trip to University of Queensland Lakes at St Lucia in Queensland, Australia. I had just purchased a new camera and lens and was itching to give them a try. I had troube with the new combination with birds in fliught which weren't that plentiful on this morning, compared to my previous visits when the Little Black Cormorants were actively nesting on the lake island. I only captured a few shots of realtively slow-moving birds. The Australian Pelican on cleaning its bill was a highlight, something I haven't captured before as it flayed its bill around and then turned it inside out over its breast which looks quite funny. A ubiquitous Pacific Black Duck cruised past and got down low to the waterline and shot it in lovely golden hour light, they are common and mostly overlooked but in light like this and at eye level they just glow. So a disappointing morning with new equipment, but certainly not a waste especially one of the Pacific Black Duck shots which is going in my portfolio.
