I was surprised by the lack of birds around, although the council worker using the petrol-powered leaf blower for about 90 minutes probably didn't help. The main attraction for me on this outing was a lucky find of a Tawny Frogmouth. They are difficult to spot as they look so much like the trees they they perch in, this one looked like a large bump on a branch. It looked like it was sitting on a small stick nest, then I noticed its breast feathers ruffling and a little head popped out - it was sitting on a nestling! I got a bit of a look at the baby from a couple of different angles, a wonderful encounter in what was otherwise an uneventful outing.
